University of Maryland Directory

The University of Maryland Directory uses a technology called Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is an industry standard for organizing data of all kinds for easy and flexible retrieval. The Directory may be referred to as the LDAP Directory.

All faculty, staff, and students (as well as sponsored affiliates) have records in the University directory, which contain the standard office and telephone contact information, as well as userID and password information. Applications are increasingly being designed to use the directory for information as well as user ID and password verification; currently CorporateTime calendaring service ELMS are a few that reference the Directory for authentication.

Following are a few native applications used against the Directory.

Set Your University Directory Password

First-time users may use this page to set their University Directory Password and set Security Questions. You may then use this id/password combination to log on to various other applications such as Corporate Time Calendaring, PHR time sheet, ARES applications, and ELMS.

Change Your University Directory Password

Users who know their existing University Directory Password may use this tool to change their Directory Password. Please go to password.umd.edu to learn more about the directory password.

Set or change your University Directory Password Security Questions

Your Password Security Questions can be used to verify your identity in case you forget your password. It will take less than five minutes of your time now and could save you time and effort if you need to have your password reset by the OIT Help Desk if you forget it.
